About Us

"Utamenye iyo uva ntuzi n'iyo uja"
[If you don't know where you come from, you even don't know where you go.]
It is therefore very important to return to our roots and find out more about our culture.
We, Burundians living in Brisbane (Australia), with the same desire, have felt the need to create a professional club called Umuco to promote the Burundian culture through traditional dance and other cultural activities. Club Umuco was established on the 21st of February 2016.
The word umuco has two meanings in our mother language, Kirundi: the first is umuco as culture and the second meaning is umuco as light.
Objectives
Our primary mission is to share, upgrade and preserve (keep) our beloved culture and add it to the Australian cultural diversity but also to bring a new meaning to our identity.
The second mission, as the name suggests, is to be "umuco" (the light) for others and make a difference wherever we are and in all areas.
How?
We perform on various occasions like:
- Traditional events
- Birthday parties
- Engagement parties
- Wedding parties
- Wedding anniversaries
- Community festivals
- Multicultural events
- And many more ...
Rehearsals
We meet every week for rehearsals.
